Badger Flame Beet

This flame colored beet is mild and sweet! Similar to a carrot, the crispy texture and subtle flavor tastes especially great raw! The bright orange and yellow swirled interior is what gives it its name and makes for a stunning visual presentation that’s great for crudite platters and dinner parties that will have your guests asking you where you got this tasty veggie!

  • How to Select

Look for bunched beets with vibrant, firm, and unblemished skin. If you plan to cook the tops, find a bunch with healthy leaves and cook them as you would a chard. Exterior skin will look rough and dull, similar to a potato but once you cut into it you will reveal a vibrant, orange and yellow flesh.

  • How to Store

This beet is best stored in your refrigerator’s crisper drawer inside a grocery or produce bag. To help them keep even longer, take off the tops before storing in a bag in your crisper drawer.

  • How to Prepare

These beets can be eaten raw for a higher nutrient intake. Just peel and chop, similar to how you would prepare fresh carrots. You can also cook, roast, pickle or even juice them to enjoy the sweet flavor in a variety of ways! Pro-tip: Cooking the entire plant is not only good for your health, it also helps you do your part to reduce food waste, so don’t be afraid to cook the tops the same way you would cook a chard!
